Our Approach
At Perseverance Pediatric Therapy, we believe therapy should feel supportive, personal, and connected to your child’s everyday life. We take a child and family centered approach, meaning everything we do is thoughtfully shaped around your child’s strengths, needs, and your family’s values and routines.
We focus on building strong, trusting relationships with each child, creating a space where they feel comfortable, understood, and excited to learn. Our sessions are adapted to your child’s interests and abilities, meeting them where they are and helping them grow step by step.
We also work closely with other professionals involved in your child’s care such as speech therapists, physical therapists, and ABA providers to support a well-rounded and coordinated approach that nurtures all areas of development.
What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?
Occupational therapy is a healthcare service that supports individuals in developing the skills needed to participate in meaningful everyday activities, also known as occupations. Pediatric occupational therapists focus on helping children grow and develop so they can engage in daily childhood occupations such as play, social participation, learning at school, and self care routines.
Does my child need OT?
Every child develops at their own pace, but you may consider occupational therapy if your child is having difficulty with everyday activities or routines. Your child may benefit from OT if you notice challenges with:
Fine motor skills (holding a crayon, using scissors, manipulating small objects)
Self-care skills (feeding, using utensils, dressing, brushing teeth)
Sensory processing (may feel overwhelmed by or drawn to certain sensory experiences such as movement, touch, sounds, tastes, sights, or smells)
Feeding skills (may avoid certain foods due to texture or sensory preferences)
Attention and regulation (trouble staying focused or difficulty calming down when upset)
Visual motor skills (difficulty coordinating vision and hand movements for tasks like drawing, stacking blocks, puzzles, or catching a ball)
Motor planning (has trouble planning and carrying out new or unfamiliar movements)
Play skills (difficulty engaging with toys or exploring play in a variety of ways)
Executive functioning skills (may need support with planning, organizing, remembering steps, or completing tasks)
Gross motor skills (difficulty with large body movements such as crawling, walking, running, jumping, climbing)
Sleep routines (difficulty with sleep routines or settling for sleep)
Social participation (engaging with peers, turn-taking, joint play)
Coordination and body awareness (frequent falling, appearing clumsy, difficulty with balance)
If you’re unsure, you’re not alone many families have questions about their child’s development. Occupational therapy can provide support, guidance, and strategies to help your child participate more comfortably and confidently in daily life.
